How to Ship Macarons | How to Ship Home Baked Goods (Packaging Tips and Tricks)

What Do I Need To Know Before Shipping?

The most important thing to remember is that shipping macarons can affect the shape or taste of a macaron depending on where you are shipping and who is shipping the macarons. I have shipped quite a few macarons over the years and hope to help you achieve the highest quality that you can while staying on a reasonable budget. Make sure you know the following information before:

  • Where you are shipping to
  • Estimated shipping costs
  • Typical temperature where they are being shipped to

What Supplies Do I Need?

  • Ice packs
  • Thermal Mailers
  • Boxes
  • Clear Bags
  • Bubble Wrap
  • Crinkle Paper
  • Tape and Stickers
  • Clear Tubes

“Make sure that you freeze the macarons before you send! The colder they are, the longer they will last. There are better fillings that you can ship like the Cake Batter or Animal Cracker filling I have on my website.”

1.
Assemble the large box

This is the assembled box.

This is a little difficult to assemble yourself. You need both hands and then maybe you can push it up against your torso to help with the third side.

2.
Individually wrap macarons

I use the smaller cellophane bags. You can find them here.

I will normally use self-sealing small bags and wrap each macaron in them. This helps keep the flavors from mixing especially the Mint Chocolate Chip and the Lemon Cake Macarons.

3.
Assemble the smaller box(es)

My favorite macaron boxes are the ones that are an octagon and they perfectly fit the six macarons that I bake.

4.
Cut and place bubble wrap between each macaron inside of the smaller box

Between each of the macarons, I cut a small piece of bubble wrap and put them between the macarons and one at the bottom and the top.

5.
Wrap smaller container in bubble wrap

More bubble wrap! It may seem excessive, but these can break pretty easily, so the more you can cushion them, the better they will hold together while they are shipping.

6.
Put in insulated mailer

You can normally get these at any mail carrier, but I suggest this to help keep your macarons fresh. The colder they can stay the better the chance is that the filling won’t ooze out from the shells. You can also add ice packs to this, just make sure that they are completely frozen before sending out.

7.
Pack in a box with shredded paper

This is partly to look pretty, but also helps with insulation and keeping the macarons cold.

8.
Put in large package

You want to make sure you can comfortably shut the large box. Play around and see if you can add some more paper, or take away some of its bulgings at the seams of the large box.

9.
Tape the large box shut

You can do this any way that you would like, but I use a special tape from stickermule.com. This tape has worked great for me but it does require you to wet it down (I use a wet sponge) and then place it on the box.

“Overall, I do not suggest shipping macarons because it costs so much money to do, but, if you want to, I suggest doing ALL of these steps to assure your macarons arrive in the best possible condition.”
